“Hey there! My name is Mattie, and I’m an instructor at Arkansas Circus Arts.”
Mattie began her aerial practice in 2014 when she was introduced to silks through her college theatre department at Ouachita Baptist University. Since then, she has trained in various studios at various circus disciplines such as silks, lyra, trapeze, hammock, stilt-walking, fire-eating, juggling, hand-balancing, and cyr wheel. Mattie initially began her career as a high school English and theatre teacher, but soon learned she preferred a more kinesthetic style of teaching. She has been coaching adults and children at Arkansas Circus Arts since 2020. Her favorite part of the job is seeing her students progress in ways they never thought they could. Mattie is certified by the Circus Arts Institute and holds a Masters degree in teaching. She is also a professional performer!
